Preparing for Audition, by Joseph Alessi
- Instrument should be in good working condition.
- Pre-tape yourself daily at least one month in advance.
- Acquaint yourself with the actual orchestral part and the score.
- Listen to several good recordings of each excerpt and play with them in order to hear the harmonies and rhythms involved.
- Play the excerpts with your section colleagues to establish pitches and rhythms.
- Condition your body as well; exercising, plenty of rest, eating properly, etc.
- Play frequently for your peers and colleagues, and not necessarily those in the same instrument category as you.
